Remembering Our Friend and Board Member, Jim Taylor
October 31, 2021
It is with great sadness that Gulf Winds shares the news that our friend and board member, James “Jim” A. Taylor, Jr., passed away on October 31, 2021.
Jim spent nearly 70 years dedicated to serving credit unions. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Jim began work at the Chemstrand plant and joined the Chemstrand Employees Credit Union, which is now known as Gulf Winds. He wanted to become more involved in the credit union and was soon named chairman of the credit union's board. In 1973, after 20 years at Chemstrand/Monsanto, he moved to Tallahassee and joined the staff at Florida Credit Union League, where he worked in management until 1984. From 1978 until his retirement in 2001, he led the Southeast Corporate Federal Credit Union as CEO.
Even after retirement, Jim dedicated his time to credit unions. He volunteered for the board of SCORE Federal Credit Union which later merged with Gulf Winds in 2012. As part of the merger, Jim joined the Gulf Winds Board of Directors and was reunited with familiar faces from his Monsanto days. Jim served 9 years on the Gulf Winds Board of Directors.
Gulf Winds appreciates Jim for his dedication to bettering credit unions and allowing those around him to experience his leadership, kindness, and guidance.
